Southwest, Republic tout differing visions for Frontier

In its pursuit of bankrupt Frontier Airlines, regional operator Republic Airways is stressing the survival of the Frontier brand. "They've been doing a good job with their branding, and passengers have obviously responded and recognized that," a Republic spokesman said Thursday, following a rally in Denver by Frontier supporters. Southwest Airlines, meanwhile, which would incorporate the brand into its overall operations, insists its higher bid for Frontier is a "good thing for Denver ... We're a low-fare carrier. That's our niche, we don't plan to change that, and you'll continue seeing low fares from Southwest."
