Water filter shortage frustrates stimulus projects

A shortage of U.S.-made water filters has made it more difficult to complete sewer and wastewater projects funded by the stimulus plan. Because General Electric makes the filters in Canada, they cannot be purchased with stimulus funds. Some water projects are on hold as officials wait for waivers that will allow them to buy filters, manhole covers and bolts outside the U.S.
