New York stiffens penalties for attending animal fights

New York state residents who attend dog or cock fights can now be subject to $500 fines and three months in jail, under a law signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo last week. The law stiffens the penalties for attending animal fights from a violation to a misdemeanor; hosting fights or training fighting animals are already felonies in the state.
