Physiological factors make weight loss harder for women

Body composition plays a role in the difficulty of weight loss among women, according to Dr. David Heber of the University of California, Los Angeles. Women tend to have lower muscle mass than men, which makes it more challenging to burn calories, Heber said. Hormonal fluctuations related to monthly periods and pregnancies also trigger increased food cravings and intake, he says.
