Android, Windows enjoyed a strong Q2 in global shipments

IDC's latest global operating system shipment smartphone figures show Android expanded its lead over Apple by growing its market share by 10 percentage points to reach 79.3% while iOS declined 3.4 points to 13.2% in the second quarter. Unit shipments with Windows Phone leaped by 77% while BlackBerry's market share plummeted from 4.9% to 2.9%. Total global smartphone shipments rose by 51% from a year ago to 236.4 million units in the second quarter, according to the research firm.
