App sends out alerts when hikers go off course

New Zealand-based company Firebrand has launched a mobile application that tracks user location and compares it to a user-specified itinerary to identify when users go missing. The free app uses company servers to sound an alarm with emergency personnel and others when a user goes off course in wilderness settings or in everyday life. "Get Home Safe provides a guardian for the activities in life that may carry a small element of risk, giving people reassurance that their actions are being privately monitored should anything unforeseen happen," app creator Boyd Peacock says.
