Chicago reduces standardized tests to 10 from 25

Chicago Public Schools this year will administer 10 standardized tests -- down from 25 during the last school year. Officials said the scaled-back testing schedule was approved after parents and teachers expressed concerns about over-testing students. Under the changed schedule, testing will take place primarily in the spring, and officials say decisions on which tests to retain included input from the teachers' union and focus groups.
