Family coverage may be a casualty of the ACA at small firms

The Affordable Care Act might push more employers to drop family coverage, especially at small businesses, says Rich Fahn, owner of brokerage Excell Benefit Group. However, some small-business owners are considering offering voluntary dental or life insurance that they could buy at a group rate to compensate for the loss on the medical side. Many are also waiting to see what premiums will be next year before deciding to eliminate family coverage, consultants say.
