Has an app-gap damaged Microsoft's Windows 8 brand?

Microsoft might have damaged its reputation of the Windows 8 platform by offering so few of the 100 most popular applications -- only 54% so far, according to Microsoft's Nick Landry's list of "must have" apps. While some industry analysts say 54% is a good number for a relatively new OS, other disagree. "Windows 8 still doesn't support the No. 1 social app, Facebook, the No. 1 paid-content app, HBO GO, the No. 1 sports app, Watch ESPN. These, and others, are the same apps that I've been griping about for over a year, and they're still not supported," says Patrick Moorhead, Moor Insights & Strategy principal analyst.
