N.C. officials suggest company post $47.6M bond for dam improvements

The North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources recommended that an aluminum producer obtain a bond worth $47.6 million backing improvements to four dams over the coming two decades. Since then, however, the state Administration Department has filed a lawsuit challenging the company's property rights for the dams. The environmental officials' recommendation would have cleared the way for the company to get certification for a 50-year federal operating license for the dams.
