Study finds more hospitals are engaging in HIE with outside providers

Health information exchange between providers and hospitals grew 41% from 2008 to 2012, with 58% of hospitals sharing health data with outside providers last year, according to a study led by outgoing National HIT Coordinator Dr. Farzad Mostashari. Despite this growth, however, Mostashari said the U.S. still has "a long road ahead toward universal interoperability."
