Study reveals e-communication's impact on docs, patients

A study in Health Affairs revealed that electronic communication between patients and doctors could enhance patient satisfaction and care. However, researchers believe the lack of compensation for the additional work could hinder providers from adopting the technology. "The lack of compensation is one issue, and another is that unless the practice takes steps to reduce a physician's daily workload of patients, communicating with patients is extra work that makes some doctors feel that their day can never end," said Dr. Tara Bishop, lead author of the study and an assistant professor of public health and medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College.
