Want innovation? Whatever you do, don't tidy your desk

People working at tidy desks are less creative than people at messy desks, regardless of whether they are the ones who originally created the clutter, researchers say. "Disorderly environments seem to inspire breaking free of tradition, which can produce fresh insights. Orderly environments, in contrast, encourage convention and playing it safe," explains psychologist Kathleen Vohs.
