Summer program tackles algebra, college admissions requirements

The University of California has launched a new summer program to bridge the gap for high-school students short just one or two classes from meeting state university admissions requirements. The six-week SummerUp program currently is focused on bridging the gap in Algebra II -- often students' missing course, a survey showed -- but the university hopes to expand the program in future years to include courses in English language arts.
