Americans' salt intake above recommended amounts

Most Americans consume as much as four times more salt than the recommended daily amount of half a teaspoon, and health officials say the greatest salt problems are restaurant and processed foods, not salt added at the table. Health officials also say changes hinge on the industry's food processors, who could effectively reverse salt's ill effects by helping consumers cut their salt use in half.
