EPA fines get Tuscon schools back on track

Seven Tuscon, Ariz., charter school operators have been fined a total of $67,240 by the Environmental Protection Agency for violations of the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act. The EPA learned in May 2006 that the operators failed to develop management plans and conduct asbestos building material inspections. Each of the six affected schools now has management plans in effect to safely handle asbestos.
