Florida funds university solar, renewable energy efforts

Florida Gulf Coast University has won $8.5 million in seed money from the state to build a solar farm that could provide as much as 20% of its electricity. The funding was part of Florida Gov. Charlie Crist's effort to encourage the use of renewable energy sources, and the state is putting at least $50 million more into the effort to coordinate renewable energy research at the state's universities.
