Does Facebook make students more empathetic but less likely to do well in school?

A recent study unveiled at the annual American Psychological Association conference found that students spending a lot of time on Facebook have lower academic performance and higher risk of mental-health problems, such as anxiety and depression. Conversely, the research found that students who spend more time on Facebook also show a stronger sense of identity and kindness toward others. Larry Rosen, the psychology professor who did the study, says parents must find a balance in how children spend their time online.
