Facebook gains on LinkedIn as a recruiting tool

More companies are using social media sites to look for potential hires, with some firms saying they have sharply reduced job-board postings in favor of other ways of networking. LinkedIn, which is specifically geared toward the business community, posted a 170% increase in revenues from recruiters in the second quarter, and it continues to be the most popular among hiring managers. But observers say Facebook is gaining ground, with companies such as VMware launching Facebook-specific hiring applications and research showing job seekers are 50% more likely to apply to positions on Facebook than on other social networks.
