AT&T offers cell-based home phone service in some areas

AT&T has been offering since July a cellular-based landline residential service in certain markets where the carrier does not provide "traditional" wireline service, the company confirmed. Other telecoms, including Verizon Wireless, C Spire and Sprint Nextel, have launched similar services, in which users plug their landline phones into an adapter that links to a wireless network.
