Giant hydropower plant in Brazil set to start generating in 2015

Brazil's Norte Energia says the first turbine at its giant Belo Monte hydroelectric plant is on pace to be activated in February 2015. The key is the scheduled rerouting of the Xingu River, which must happen by November of next year, said planning superintendent João Cadamuro. The plant is designed to eventually produce 11.2 gigawatts of electricity.
