California's Alvarado Street Bakery is a worker-owned cooperative, so when managers wanted to switch to solar power, they had to figure out how much pay workers were willing to sacrifice in order to fund the switch. Managers then found solar solutions that were cheap enough to keep workers happy, ensuring support for the transition. "This makes all of us feel that much better about being part of the business," says CEO Joseph Tuck. "Plus, 'bread baked by the sun' has a really nice ring to it."
