Refiners have pathways around what they perceive as the E10 "blend wall," which is really more of a "bump," said Geoff Cooper, vice president of research and analysis for the Renewable Fuels Association. He said the U.S. needs ethanol because it brings fuel prices down across the country. "We're happy to see increased domestic oil production. ... But it hasn't changed the fact that we're still spending $1 billion a day on imported crude oil. It hasn't led to lower oil prices. It hasn't led to reduced gas prices at the pump for consumers," Cooper said.
