Big Dig $133 million in the hole

A $133 million shortfall has been cited in the Big Dig's budget after a freeze in federal highway funds, in addition to the Turnpike Authority recently collecting $67 million less than expected for a real estate deal, according to state Treasurer Timothy P. Cahill. Cahill said the Big Dig's financial woes could become a burden on other Massachusetts public works projects by detracting from other initiatives.
