Chemical industry professionals want EPA regulation

Chemical manufacturers say they will give the Environmental Protection Agency the data necessary for the agency to determine whether more-stringent regulations are needed. "The fundamental duty of the chemical industry and government that regulates it is to make sure those products are safe," said Cal Dooley, ACC president and chief executive. Industry leaders want federal oversight because states and some municipalities have passed laws restricting certain chemicals. Currently, the government has minimal information on the health hazards of the 80,000-plus chemicals on the market.
