Bill to extend tax breaks for renewables is unveiled in Senate

A bill to extend a number of federal tax incentives for renewable-energy sources through 2012 has been introduced by Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass. Among the bill's provisions are proposals to retroactively reinstate the tax credit for biodiesel through 2012 and provide algae-based fuels the same tax breaks accorded to cellulosic biofuels. Kerry is reportedly hoping that some provisions in this bill will become part of energy legislation that the Senate leadership plans to take up after the month-long summer recess.
