7 tips for developing a successful school autism program

There are seven important steps to creating a successful educational program for students with autism, says Jamie Pagliaro of Rethink Autism and the New York Center for Autism Charter School. Pagliaro advocates individualized assessments to help determine each students' particular strengths and weaknesses, as well as a quantifiable system for measuring student progress. Other important components include standardized training for teachers, a functional curriculum, research-based teaching, low staffing ratios and parental involvement.
