Vegan chain bets on fun, flavor to overcome "health food" label

Native Foods Cafe co-owner Andrea McGinty recently moved her company's headquarters to Chicago from Southern California, gambling that the chain's focus on flavor and fun will bring in Windy City diners who might otherwise avoid meatless fare. Chef Tanya Petrovna founded the chain in 1994 Palm Springs, Calif., has created a menu that features items including tempeh tempura and meatless burgers that taste like anything but "health food," McGinty says.
