5 steps of Lean combine for better efficiency

Lean management was broken down in Japan decades ago into five categories that focus on work spaces and efficiency, writes Jonny Williamson. It's known as 5S for the Japanese words that capture the separate elements. They involve identifying the tools necessary for a task, ordering the tools by how frequently they're used, making sure the work space is tidy, standardizing practices for the preceding measures and, finally, following up to make sure the practices are maintained.
