ONC announces plans to drive interoperability, HIE use

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT announced its strategies to boost the adoption of health information exchanges and promote interoperability. Included in the agency's planned action steps are a proposed rule for fees for complex chronic care management and incorporation of HIE funding from Medicaid to lessen infrastructure costs for the exchanges. The agency also confirmed its intention to advance multistakeholder creation of standards for interoperability and release new guidance on existing HIE initiatives.
