Ore. officials scramble to salvage $3.4B Columbia River Crossing

Oregon has spent $170 million for environmental work and permitting for the $3.4 billion Columbia River Crossing bridge, road and light-rail project between Portland, Ore., and Vancouver, Wash. It has also committed $450 million to build the project. But Washington state legislators failed to approve their state's $450 million share, effectively killing the plan. Officials in Oregon say the need for the bridge remains, and they are looking into ways to salvage the project.
