Ocean Spray hurt by farmers' disputes

Ocean Spray Cranberries, which relies on a co-op of cranberry farmers to make its signature juice, looks to remain independent while competing for shelf space against the deeper pockets of Coca-Cola's Minute Maid and PepsiCo's Tropicana. Earlier this year, the co-op narrowly rejected a plan that would have given Pepsi control of the Ocean Spray brand, while also bumping up distribution. The rejected deal led to some farmers defecting from the co-op, which suffers from internal disputes among members.
