Board approves moratorium on hotel-condo conversions in San Francisco

San Francisco's Board of Supervisors has approved a plan to impose an 18-month ban on hotels converting guest rooms into condominiums. The legislation came about after the city's landmark Fairmont Hotel announced plans to convert 226 rooms into luxury condos. Supervisor Aaron Peskin told workers concerned about their jobs and hoteliers looking for the economic gain from the sales the temporary ban merely represents a "timeout."
