Industry responds to call for input on identifying devices

The FDA is considering ways to improve the identification and tracking of medical devices, such as the use of bar codes or RFID technology, and will seek public comment for 90 days. AdvaMed CEO Stephen Ubl said adoption of any standardized rules should be voluntary because medical devices are so diverse. Several device companies also indicated their participation in the process.
