Column: Pivotal times call for action by travel agencies

Charlie Funk, owner along with his wife Sherrie of Just Cruisin' Plus in Nashville, Tenn., explains that the moves airlines are making to reduce their costs, shift some expenses to travel agencies and other measures can be seen as sensible and sound business decisions. However, they will likely have unintended consequences for the airlines as well as the global distribution systems. Meanwhile, travel agencies need to "make an independent decision but be alert at the same time to a threat that doesn't directly affect them right now," he writes.
