The Obama administration supports extending the school year and school day, and more U.S. schools are adopting year-round calendars. Too much time is spent getting students back into a studious frame of mind after a traditional summer vacation, says teacher Jennifer Fisher. "With [an extended] calendar, they don't have a chance -- it's like those extra five weeks, it prevents the hangover. You know, so they have five weeks of fun and then it's 'Oh, OK, we're back at it.' "
