N.C. pharmacy program aids drug safety for seniors

The Senior PharmAssist program in Durham, N.C., helps low-income seniors by making sure they are taking the right prescription drugs, in the correct dosages, at the right times. The program also works to prevent dangerous drug interactions. Rolling out the program nationwide could save more than $20 billion a year in unnecessary hospitalizations and emergency care, according to one estimate.
