Textbook purchases are put on back burner in California

Current events -- including the election of President Barack Obama and information about stem cell research -- won't be in California textbooks for some time because of budget cuts. State officials have delayed until 2016 textbook purchases for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Recent events and scientific breakthroughs will have to be covered by supplemental materials.
