Cat lover is on a crusade to stamp out declawing

Semi-retired Massachusetts native Harriet Baker began her crusade against declawing cats a decade ago, and she seeks every opportunity to explain the realities behind the procedure, which involves removing the tip of the finger. Some say the procedure can create anger issues and alter a cat's behavior. The AVMA advises cat owners to seek alternatives to declawing whenever possible, including rubber caps for the claws and training felines to use a scratching post.
