Doctors in emerging economies perform more plastic surgeries

Plastic surgeons in the U.S. and Brazil performed more procedures in 2009 than physicians in other countries, but India and China gained ground, according to statistics from an international organization. "Countries like China and India with emerging economies are generating a lot [of] wealth and as that wealth is passed around, people are choosing to their spend discretionary income on aesthetic procedures," said the group's president, a board-certified plastic surgeon.
