Retinopathy rates among diabetics are increasing, study says

A study of about 1,000 diabetic adults who underwent an eye diagnostic test between 2005 and 2008 found that 29% had diabetic retinopathy and 4% had cases of the disorder serious enough to threaten their vision. The overall rate of diabetic retinopathy was about 40% higher than the rate recorded in a previous study from 1988 to 1994, the researchers said.
