Living roofs begin to take root in more Canadian cities

Green roofs are growing in Canadian cities. Toronto sports nearly a half million square feet of them, and Vancouver has 225,000 square feet of living roofs. Montreal lags far behind, but the Palais des congrés hopes to change that when it plants almost 600,000 square feet of its roof with greenery. The green roofs lower energy consumption, reduce the "urban heat island effect" and reduce stormwater runoff.
