Study: "Cloud" is hard for most to define, even as they use it

A study by NPD Group indicates that only 22% of consumers understand the term "cloud computing" even though 76% of respondents said they had used the technology in some form in the past year. "Whether they understand the terminology or not, consumers are actually pretty savvy in their use of cloud-based applications. They might not always recognize they are performing activities in the cloud, yet they still rely on and use those services extensively," said Stephen Baker, vice president of industry analysis at NPD.
