Wal-Mart to green its fresh-produce supply chain

Wal-Mart is extending its green supply-chain efforts to include the fresh produce it sells. Wal-Mart and The Sustainability Consortium are creating a custom index for its produce suppliers based on California's Stewardship Index, and the retailer will ask suppliers to assess their operations. "The info collected is likely to include water, energy and fertilizer consumption, as well as waste production, pesticide use, yields and the use of refrigerants," according to this article.
