In with U.S. measuring system, out with metric system

Maine's Department of Transportation has decided to make the transition from the metric system to customary U.S. measurements of feet and pounds. State DOT Chief Engineer John E. Dority said the switch, which will take some time because of unfinished projects, is a recognition of reality because many contractors building bridges and roads were given plans that needed unnecessary and sometimes expensive converting.
