Although the U.S. Olympic cycling team felt it had to apologize for wearing little black masks upon their arrival in Beijing, such masks are commonly used in China as shields from the pollution, and reportedly could become a global fashion statement. "That image is in the air," said Jason Christopher, editor of the fashion blog the J.C. Report. "Given the publicity [from athletes wearing the masks], I think it's likely we'll see brands rolling these out in multiple colors."
