Companies, Congress try to help immigrants assimilate

Hoping to blunt criticism that immigrants steal U.S. jobs, businesses are offering language courses and other skill-building programs to help their foreign-born employees assimilate into American culture. They are getting some help in Congress, too: Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., and three representatives have introduced a bill to provide tax breaks for companies that provide English literacy programs.
