Hotels offer incentives to offset oversupply of rooms

Many countries are experiencing an oversupply of hotel rooms, including China, the U.S. and the Caribbean. Smith Travel Research expects profits and revenue for the U.S. travel industry to fall in 2008 from year-ago levels. Some hotels are trying to attract travelers with gasoline cards, free breakfasts, dining credits and gift cards.
