New York mayor calls for auctioning airport landing slots

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg wants the city to pilot a program that would encourage airlines to use larger planes during peak hours by auctioning landing slots at John F. Kennedy, La Guardia and Newark airports. Bloomberg has asked the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to consider implementing the plan, which the Bush administration has proposed to reduce flights and airport delays.
