Asian markets slightly up after choppy trading

Investors awaited results from a meeting of the U.S. Federal Reserve as markets across the Asian-Pacific region mostly were up Tuesday. Japan's Nikkei 225 gained 0.6%, while Australia's S&P/ASX 200 and Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index both added 0.7%. South Korea's Kospi Composite inched up 0.2%, New Zealand's NZX 50 dropped 0.8% and China's Shanghai Composite rose 0.5%. Singapore's Straits Times Index jumped 2.2%, while shares in the Philippines and Taiwan's Taiex both climbed 0.4%.
